For one week Daubeny Primary School playground was transformed into a large-scale experimental space, giving all 485 pupils the chance to try out new ideas and experiment with the design of their playground.
'Once upon a time...' was written in huge chalk letters across the infant and junior and playgrounds and throughout the week wooden pallets, traffic cones, cardboard tubes, chalk, carpet, black-out curtain and coloured lights were used by the children to make their own play environments. What became clear was the importance to them of being able to alter and shape the space for themselves.
"The Experimental Playground Project has profound messages for all those interested in school grounds design and child well-being at school"
